West Bengal: Today, authorities reported that an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing facility in Duttapukur, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, resulted in the unfortunate loss of five lives and numerous individuals sustaining injuries.
Blast in ‘illegal’ cracker factory
Around 10:00 am, the blast occurred, causing significant damage to multiple adjacent residences. The current fatality tally is anticipated to increase due to the ongoing rescue efforts. Local residents revealed that the factory had been illicitly operational for several months, asserting that there was a questionable alliance between law enforcement and regional political figures.
A heavy police contingent has been swiftly sent to the location, and efforts to conduct rescue operations are currently in progress. The official number of fatalities has not yet been officially disclosed by the authorities. As per information, there are concerns that additional people might have lost their lives or sustained injuries in the explosion. Authorities have stated that the wounded individuals are being expeditiously transported to a hospital located in Barasat.

Several months earlier, an explosion took place in Egra, situated in the East Midnapore district of West Bengal, resulting in the unfortunate loss of multiple lives. Following this incident, the state government had made assurances to suppress such unlawful operations and had encouraged firecracker producers to seek licenses for the production of environmentally friendly “green crackers.”
