One such commendable initiative is the ‘Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana’, orchestrated by the Maharashtra government. This scheme is facilitating profound transformations within Indian society, by granting substantial financial benefits to girl children.
Unveiling the Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana
Initiated on 1st April 2016, the ‘Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana’ is an integral cog in the Maharashtra Government’s wheel driving female empowerment. The primary objective behind this initiative was to escalate the number of girls in the population and amend societal attitudes towards female children. Interestingly, the scheme is extended to families blessed with two daughters.
Conditions to avail of benefits:
- Permanent resident of Maharastra
- A joint bank account in the name of the daughter and mother
The scheme offers the benefit of INR 100000 as accident insurance and INR 5000 overdraft facility.
In an innovative approach, if parents opt for sterilisation after the birth of their daughter, an amount of ₹50,000 is offered. In the case of two daughters, each girl is awarded ₹25,000 post the parents’ sterilisation. The funds allocated under this scheme can be channelised towards the girl’s education, providing a solid foundation for her future.
What you’ll need to Avail the Scheme
To avail the benefits of the Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana, several key documents are required. This includes an Aadhaar card, a bank account passbook of the mother or daughter, a mobile phone number, a passport-sized photograph, a residence proof certificate and an income proof certificate. Even in the case of a third child, the scheme continues to provide benefits for the first two daughters.

The application process for the scheme is user-friendly and hassle-free. One needs to visit the official website of the Maharashtra government. You can download the registration form and carefully fill in the required details. Make sure to fill the details carefully, Any discrepancies in the form may lead to the cancellation of the application. Attach the necessary documents along with the form. The complete application needs to be submitted at the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
