Locals Alarmed by Subsidence in Khamroli and Surrounding Areas

On Thursday, locals claimed that numerous homes in Khamroli hamlet had previously developed cracks that have grown wider this monsoon season. Additionally, there have been reports of sinking in Pajitilani, Tipau, and Sahiya-Patan, where the roads have developed significant fractures. People reported that Khamroli had cracks as a result of earlier road-cutting work to build a stretch between Pajitilani and Chibau-Khamroli as part of the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). There are about 50 families living there. “Gradual subsidence got aggravated this monsoon and we’ve informed the authorities,” said a resident.

Engineer Calls for Thorough Geological Investigation as Subsidence Worsens in Uttarakhand Region

Sunil Kumar, executive engineer, PMGSY, told TOI, “The road cutting was carried out by PWD and the construction project was handed over to PMGSY. There is a problem of subsidence there and it needs a thorough geological investigation.” According to Kumar, PMGSY has created a budget estimate for repairing Kalsi’s subsiding roads. “The situation is worse in Khamroli, Tipau, Pajitilani, and Patan,” he declared. “PWD and PMGSY are supposed to hold a geological survey and ascertain the cause of subsidence,” stated Kalsi SDM Yukta Mishra. Additionally, Karnaprayag, Landour near Mussoorie, and Marora village in the Rudraprayag area have observed cracks and sinking.
