Dehradun News: On Wednesday evening, a sizable landslip nearly completely obliterated the Jakhan village on Langha Road in Vikasnagar, which is around 50 miles from Dehradun. The collapse of twelve homes, seven cow sheds, and other buildings was reported. According to the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), more than 100–150 residents of 28 families who lived close to the landslide-affected village were evacuated and moved to a shelter home erected at a government junior school.
Entire Hill Slope Gives Way, Triggering Landslip in Vikasnagar
The landmass was displaced on August 16 as a result of the entire hill slope, on which the settlement is located, moving lower. Rameshwar Singh, a resident of the village, said, “Around 3pm Wednesday, debris and rubble started rolling down, damaging several houses. Some houses developed major cracks. Residents of the village have been in panic ever since.” The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) sent a team to the village. However, there were no reported fatalities. Manikant Mishra, the SDRF commandant, went to the area on Thursday to assess the situation.
District Supply Office Provides Food to Landslide-Affected Families
“The district supply office is ensuring food reaches the affected families in the temporary shelter home. Efforts are under way to restore electricity supply,” said the State Emergency Operation Centre.
