Dehradun News: An incident of ragging at Selakui’s Doon Business School has recently surfaced, with the victim, a second-year BBA student, sharing a video to convey his ordeal. The victim was subjected to severe physical abuse by senior students, resulting in visible bruising, and this distressing incident reportedly occurred two days ago.
Students create chaos at institute
Upon the student’s complaint, the college management responded by taking action against both the accused students and the victim. The people involved in the ragging were suspended for a duration of 30 days, whereas the victim and those who intervened to assist him received a 21-day suspension. In protest of these decisions, students vented their frustration by causing a disturbance on the college campus on Tuesday night.
Students went on a rampage within the campus, causing damage by breaking glass, pots, uprooting boards, and overturning a parked car. The situation remained unruly even after the police arrived at the scene after 11:30 PM. CO Vikasnagar, Bhaskar Lal Shah, confirmed the incident, stating that it is currently under verification, and if an official complaint is filed, a case will be registered accordingly.

In the video shared by the victim, he can be seen seated on the ground near a bed and is subjected to kicks, resulting in his loud cries. The video also displays photos revealing red and blue marks on the young man’s back and thigh, indicative of a physical violence.
Subsequently, he speaks on the ragging, explaining that he was a target of ragging by senior students. He further expresses his bewilderment at the college management’s response, which led to the expulsion of the accused students for 30 days, but also included the victim and other students who came to his aid, facing a 21-day expulsion. This outcome raises questions about the fairness of the situation.
What does the UGC say on Ragging?
The UGC (University Grants Commission) has provided a clear directive that in cases where colleges fail to assist students who report incidents of ragging, victims should approach the UGC for assistance. The UGC is prepared to take action against wrongdoers under the Ragging Regulation Act, which includes the provision of up to three years of imprisonment for individuals found guilty of engaging in ragging activities.
