Delhi Cabinet reshuffle: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena Thursday approved the Cabinet reshuffle of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. With the latest changes, Atishi has now been assigned to finance, development, and revenue departments, in addition to nine others including education and power. The development comes after a long tussle between the Arvind Kejriwal government and VK Saxena, with the AAP alleging that the LG is yet to approve the files related to the cabinet reshuffle that was sent four days ago.
Changes in Delhi Cabinet
Atishi is now also the in-charge of the finance, development, and revenue department. She now has a total of 12 departments, in addition to power and education. The decision was taken after Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena’s nod to a proposal moved by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for a portfolio reshuffle in the Delhi cabinet.
Atishi, along with Saurabh Bhardwaj, was soon in as minister in March this year. Currently, Kailash Gehlot holds the finance and revenue portfolio. Meanwhile, the development portfolio is held by Gopal Rai.
Atishi in charge of 12 departments
Atishi will be responsible for managing a total of 12 departments when the Delhi government issues an official notification. Currently, she is in charge of nine cabinet departments: higher education, training and technical education, public relations, art & culture, power, women and child development, and public works.
Atishi, who represents the Kalkaji district, was an important contributor to Manish Sisodia’s team that oversees the education department. The Delhi Council of Ministers currently has a strength of six, including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
