Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, is facing his fourth summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning regarding the Delhi liquor policy case. The probe agency has scheduled his appearance on January 18. Kejriwal, who refrained from attending the questioning on January 3, contends that the ED’s summons are unlawful and solely intended for his arrest.
Summons and Legal Standoff
Arvind Kejriwal has been issued summons by the ED on various dates, including November 2, December 21, and the most recent summons for January 18. Throughout this legal process, the Chief Minister has consistently questioned the legitimacy of the ED’s summons, asserting that their main objective appears to be his potential arrest.
Previous Interactions with CBI
In April, Arvind Kejriwal underwent questioning by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the same case. Notably, the AAP chief has not been formally accused by the agency, raising questions about the ongoing investigations.
Speculation on Arrest and AAP’s Response
Since the issuance of the first summons by the Enforcement Directorate, speculation has been rife about the possibility of Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest following the questioning. With prominent AAP leaders like Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendra Jain already in custody, the party has discussed potential courses of action. Interestingly, AAP leaders have expressed the desire for Kejriwal to continue serving as Chief Minister even if placed under arrest.
