Delhi: The Lieutenant Governor (L-G) and the Delhi government are at conflict once more over the renewal of the power subsidy, with the former saying that the latter did not clear the necessary paperwork. The L-G’s office, however, claimed that the file had previously received approval and that the power minister was to blame for the delay. According to her, the power subsidy for 46 lakh homes will stop today because VK Saxena has not yet approved the Cabinet’s decision to extend the subsidy. The Delhi government has set aside money for the subsidy, but the Power Minister emphasised that it cannot be disbursed until Saxena returns the file that was sent for clearance.
Atishi described the situation in Delhi as a ’emergency situation’
She claimed that after asking for a five-minute meeting with the Delhi LG to resolve the subsidy issue, she never heard back. Atishi had earlier claimed that LG VK Saxena and the BJP were engaged in a “conspiracy” to halt the power subsidy provided by the Arvind Kejriwal administration’s free electricity programme. She noted in a letter to Saxena that it was “deeply distressing” that the Lt. Governor did not grant time to a minister of an elected government. Atishi described the situation in Delhi as a “emergency situation” because the LG Office had not yet returned a file with the Cabinet’s decision on the matter, which might prevent lakhs of electricity consumers from receiving their subsidies. She Wrote in a letter that, “I would like to request the Lt Governor to clear the file immediately so as not to cause distress to lakhs of households in NCT of Delhi.”
Those who consume between 201 and 400 units per month are eligible for a 50% discount
The LG office, however, had referred to her claim as “misleading and false,” claiming that her request for an appointment was being “actively considered.” The LG office responded to the claim by saying, “Again, the electricity minister is making false and misleading comments on his or her behalf. Her office got a request Today at 12:26 PM, and it is currently being considered. LG has not declined her request to meet. For those who use 200 units or less of electricity each month, Delhi’s AAP administration offers free electricity. Those who consume between 201 and 400 units per month are eligible for a 50% discount, up to a maximum of Rs 850.
