The Delhi Municipal Corporation is planning to beautify public places as the civic body begins the development work in the national capital.
Waste-to-art parks in Delhi
The MCD has invited bids for the development of 47 types of sculptures and murals which will reflect the seven themes originating from Indian culture, music, and art forms. The waste-to-art figurines have been divided into seven themes of Indian classical dances, folk dances, scientists, sages, and musical instruments among others. With these figures, the MCD aims to keep Indian classic dance forms including Kathak, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, and Odissi in people’s hearts.
An official told Hindustan Times that the scrap material will be sourced from 43 municipal yards and stores. The new structure will be both two and three-dimensional figures with varying heights from six to eight feet, the official said.
The MCD will get the sculptures developed under the rate contact system which will cost up to Rs 5 crore. Delhi residents might get to see the finished work by next year, the official added.
Second series of beautification
In the second series, the sculptor aims to feature dance forms such as Kalebelia, Koli, Bhangra, Garba, Bihu, Ghoomar, Laavani, Dandiya, and Kumauni, among others.
These sculptors will replicate the hand gesture and mudras performed depicted at the immigration counter of the Delhi airport. The height of the sculptors will be six feet deep, and 10 feet long.
In another series, 14 Indian sages and scientists’ sculptors will be built. From mathematician-astronomer Aryabhatta, Nagaarjuna, Bhaskaracharya, and Patanjali among others.
The MCD announced a waste-to-art theme park near east Delhi’s Vikas Marg, based on Indian festivals and celebrations. It has been spread over an area of 2.8 acres, costing Rs 1.75 crore.
