Delhi Municipal Corporation’s House Meeting: Focus on Libraries and Plastic Waste Management

In the upcoming Delhi Municipal Corporation’s House meeting, several significant proposals are on the agenda, including the establishment of new libraries across Delhi. These libraries will primarily cater to students and will be set up in various unused corporation buildings, such as slopes, corporation offices, schools, and other suitable locations. The ambitious plan aims to create over 50 libraries in different areas of the city, ensuring seating for more than 25 students in each.

Focus on Libraries and Plastic Waste Management

Additionally, the Corporation is poised to introduce changes to the Plastic Waste Management Rules. The proposal involves replacing the existing Plastic Waste Management Rules of 2016 with the Plastic Waste Management Rules of 2023. This strategic move is expected to streamline the collection, disposal, and recycling of plastic waste. The Corporation will also establish collection centers and recycling facilities to manage plastic waste effectively.

Notably, the new rules will require food cart vendors and street vendors in Delhi to install dustbins for the proper disposal of plastic waste, including items like polythene, plastic bottles, wrappers, and other plastic materials. To manage the collection of this plastic waste, the Corporation intends to engage relevant agencies, contributing to a cleaner and more environmentally responsible city.

As the House meeting convenes, these proposals represent a commitment to improving education and environmental sustainability within Delhi.
