Delhi News: Delhi received 153 mm of rainfall at the end of 24 hours cycle till Sunday morning making it the record amount of rainfall in the past 41 years. Over the course of 2 days, Delhi-NCR has been submerged in heavy rainfall which has caused commuters a lot of trouble. While many have faced a lot of problems due to water-logging and the resulting traffic situation, others have sought to enjoy the blissful environment of Monsoon rains. Many people shared their activities on social media enjoying the stormy weather.
‘Yellow alert’ issued
IMD has issued a ‘yellow alert’ in wake of heavy rains in the national capital. Yesterday, Delhi fire department reported collapse of 15 buildings and one death in Karol Bagh area. The heavy rains has been a consequence of Monsoon winds meeting Western Disturbance for the Mediterranean Sea causing heavy rainfall in the western part of the Indo- Gangetic Plains.
The city received 133.4 mm of rain on July 10, 2003 and highest ever of 266.2 mm on July 21, 1958. The IMD has predicted many days of heavy rainfall as the Monsoon proceeds.
The Situation in Punjab and Haryana has also been very difficult amongst rainfall and a orange alert has been issued in many regions including the Union territory Chandigarh. Many parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have received heavy rainfalls and there have been reportings of landslides in many areas.
