Delhi News: On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Minister of Education Atishi Singh inagurated the Delhi Robotics League. The competition is one of its kind in the country with participation of students from government and private schools. The event’s final are set to take place for two days from 6th to 7th July. The programme was launched at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School in December last year. The aim of league is to promote study of robotics among school children and find noticeable talents for future training and grooming.
“Use technology to solve day-to-day issues”
CM Arvind Kejriwal praised the event and stated that a competition like this had never taken place before. He also claimed that the current education system employed in Delhi schools would teach students to solve day to day problems. During his speech Kejriwal recalled an incident from his IIT days, “I studied mechanical engineering at IIT-Kharagpur. When I was in my village one day my grandfather had asked me to repair a fan but I told him that I could not repair it. He replied that you come from IIT and could not even repair a fan.” Delhi CM stated. He talked about the contrast in education levels and how practical education system has become.
He further added ” I always use to feel that our education system is cut off from day to day problems. We were taught things that had no real use. I am very contend with today’s education system as class 10 and 11 students are being taught to use technology to solve day-to-day issues.
Delhi Education Revolution
In the course of last 8 years, improvement in Delhi’s education system has been the pinnacle achievement of AAP’s government. Delhi Education Minster Atishi Singh said ” 10-11 years ago no would have imagined that students from Delhi government schools would be participating in a Robotics League.”
She further added that “Delhi government schools are no longer the last choice for students and parents but today I need to thank Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for making such excellent schools that students are enrolling from every corner of Delhi.”
The overhauling of infrastructure in Delhi schools has often been cited as the primary reason for drastic improvements in education. The development of infrastructure brought about sudden increase in attendance numbers as cleanliness and resource equipment became a major factor in driving children back to schools.
The government focused to strengthen the role played by teachers and school administration with training as efficient leaders. Principal leaders workshops for offered to teachers in consultation with institutions like IIM Ahmedabad. Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia is credited with improving standards by undertaking school tours and working on administration problems to solve hierchrical issues. The mentor teacher program not only helped with improvement in teaching skills but also shaped teachers as overseers of student education.
