Delhi News: The most notable aspect of Phase 4 is that, after Phase 1, it will be the second-shortest phase of the Delhi Metro in terms of length. This phase will also turn out to be the smallest one to date in terms of stations. On three 64.75 km long metro routes, 59 metro stations were constructed during Phase 1.
On three 65.19 km long metro routes, 46 new metro stations are being built concurrently as part of Phase-4. Two of the three Phase-4 routes are being made by expanding the existing operating Magenta and Pink Lines, but a third corridor, the Silver Line, is also being built entirely from beginning.
With the Pink Line’s expansion, Delhi will finally have a complete ring of metro, similar to the Ring Road. In addition, the Magenta Line will surpass the Blue Line to become the second-longest metro line with the extension. Travelling to the airport will be simpler thanks to the Silver Line.
Both above and below the metro, trains will run
In this phase, Delhi will also experience the first double-decker sections of the metro, where the main road will be erected at the bottom and a vehicle flyover will be created below the top, where the metro will run on a single structure.
After a long time, the Metro will once more travel through Old Delhi’s busy areas like Sadar Bazaar, Nabi Karim, and Pul Bangash via the Magenta Line. The Pink Line Metro will enter North-East Delhi over the Yamuna River’s fifth metro bridge, which is also being constructed concurrently.
18 of the 46 new metro stations that will be constructed along the three routes will be underground, with the remaining stations being elevated. Moving from one corner to another will be made simpler by 11 new interchange stations. Azadpur will become the second station in the metro network to have triple interchange, where three separate lines (Yellow, Pink, and Magenta) will connect, following Kashmere Gate (Red, Yellow, and Violet lines).
There will be many facilities for passengers
The new metro stations of Phase-4 are also getting 323 escalators and 179 lifts for the convenience of the users. This time, brand-new, very effective lifts with indigenous manufacture that are heavy duty and capable of carrying 20 passengers at once are being installed. CCTV cameras will also be set up inside the lifts for the first time for the protection of the users.
Driverless metro will operate on Phase-4 lines just like Phase-3. Additionally, this time around, all underground stations along the Airport Line will have full height platform screen doors installed, while all stations along the elevated lines will have half height platform screen doors.
On the Magenta and Pink Lines, excavation work is now being done for the building of the underground section using two tunnel boring machines each. It is made sure that no accidents happen during tunnel construction and that there is no vibration-related damage to the buildings created on the surface by using a variety of cutting-edge tools.
The work going quite slowly
Even though the construction of the Phase 4 lines has been finished to a degree of roughly 40%, this phase is still taking much longer than expected. the effect Covid will have on Phase 4 construction. The deadlines had to be extended twice as a result. Because of this, the project’s original completion date of 2024–2025 will now be 2025–2026.
