Delhi News: Government announces closure of schools from classes 1 to 5

The schools have been ordered close for Tuesday.

In the wake of heavy showers in Delhi, MCD schools, MCD-aided and Recognised schools will remain closed on Tuesday. Municipal Corporation of Delhi Education Department has ordered the holiday for classes 1 to 5.

The notification read “In view of the heavy rainfall and the alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding adverse weather conditions in Delhi, it has been decided that all MCD schools, MCD Aided, and Recognized schools will remain closed for students on 11.07 2023 for the well-being of our students in light of the inclement weather conditions.”

All HoSs and teachers have been asked to be present in the schools.

Schools closed in other states

Schools will also remain closed in neighboring cities of Gurugram and Noida. The education department has also asked private schools to follow the advisory to suspend classes as well.

The government in other states have also ordered shutting down of schools in view of heavy rainfall. Himachal Pradesh government had ordered the closure of all state government schools and colleges for a period of two days. Schools also remained closed in Kerala, Punjab and Haryana.

Yamuna above danger mark

Another reason for closing schools is the rising level of Yamuna river. The river breached the danger mark at the Old Railway Bridge. By the night hours of Monday the water level was around 205.76 meters. Severe water logging at different places in the national capital has made the normalcy very difficult for commuters. The actual orange alert mark is 206 metres.

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj stated “Delhi government is on full alert. As the water will go above 206 metres, we will start shifting people, living on the banks. The process of taking them safely to the relief camp will be started. Earlier we felt that the water level would cross 205 meters on July 11, but it has crossed 205 meters today itself because more water is being released from Haryana.”
