Delhi rain: The water level of Yamuna in Delhi breached the danger mark of 205.33 metres on Tuesday. The water level is now hovering at 206.32 metres, triggering a red alert across the national capital, as per Central Water Commission (CWC). This comes amid Indian Meteorological Department’s prediction for more rain for the entire week after heavy downpours for three days in a row. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for the city.
Yamuna water level above the danger mark
The water level of Yamuna in Delhi has crossed the danger mark of 205.33 meters and is currently hovering above 206.32 meters, as per news agency ANI.
“At 8 am today, water level of River Yamuna recorded at 206.32 metres at Old Railway Bridge, flowing above the danger level. The highest flood level of the river in Delhi is 207.49 metres. As a precautionary measure, Railway and traffic movement on Old Railway Bridge has been stopped,” ANI said in a tweet.
Traffic diverted
The traffic police have diverted some routes in view of waterlogging at various places. The traffic police said that the iron bridge on Pusta Road in Gandhi Nagar will remain closed until further notice. Meanwhile, at the Pragati Maidan tunnel, traffic movement will be restricted. “Iron bridge pusta road Gandhi Nagar is closed for public/ traffic till further orders due to the dangerous level of water in Yamuna River. Commuters are advised to plan their journey accordingly,” the department said in a tweet.
