On Saturday, a blast in Delhi’s Sadar Bazar claimed at least one death. Fire officials said that even though the source of the loud jolt is still unknown, it appears to have been a building collapse because there was no fire or smoke at the scene.
According to Delhi Police, there was no blast.
“We are trying to ascertain the cause. Prima facie, the water pump pipe ruptured,” they said.
On Saturday at around 6:20 p.m., there was a loud noise, followed by dust and the structural collapse of certain stairs. The event happened in Qutub Road’s Shop No. 872. Two fire tenders responded quickly to a call, but there was no fire.
“Prima facie, it seemed to be from a blast caused by the water pipe. No soot/ fire/ pellets/smell of any chemical etc was observed. At present, one injured person has been shifted to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital by PCR. He has minor injuries. The area has been cordoned off,” the authorities said.
However, the person has succumbed to injuries.
