These misconceptions include the idea that the rules want to create a police state and endanger people’s liberties. The Delhi police responded by outlining the true goals of these legislation and stressing the following points:
Ensuring Accountability and Transparency
The necessity for audio-video recording of search and seizure activities is one of the new rules’ major modifications. In order to promote police accountability, improve transparency, and safeguard individual rights throughout various processes, this action is essential.
Enhancing Accessibility with e-FIR
The ability to file complaints has significantly improved with the implementation of the e-FIR system. By enabling people to register complaints from any location, this feature increases process accessibility and lowers obstacles to prompt legal remedies.
Protecting Personal Liberty
To prevent unnecessary arrests, the new laws have done away with provisions that allowed for arrests without substantial reasons. Moreover, bail cannot be denied solely based on extended police custody beyond the initial 15 days, ensuring that personal liberty is preserved.
