Delhi Police Clears Air! New Criminal Laws Strengthen Rights, Not Restrict Them

New Criminal Laws: Delhi Police Ensures Accountability, Transparency, and Protection of Individual Freedoms

Delhi Police New Criminal Law

The Delhi Police has taken a stand to debunk the misconception that one’s freedoms are in danger due to the new criminal laws. Rather, by emphasising accountability and openness, these rules include strict protections intended to prevent misuse of power. In addition to guaranteeing the protection of people’ rights, this comprehensive reform seeks to increase public trust in the legal system.

Delhi Police on New Criminal Laws

The Delhi police has cleared up several common misconceptions about New Criminal Laws that have been making the rounds. These misconceptions include the idea that the rules want to create a police state and endanger people’s liberties. The Delhi police responded by outlining the true goals of these legislation and stressing the following points:

Ensuring Accountability and Transparency

The necessity for audio-video recording of search and seizure activities is one of the new rules’ major modifications. In order to promote police accountability, improve transparency, and safeguard individual rights throughout various processes, this action is essential.

Enhancing Accessibility with e-FIR

The ability to file complaints has significantly improved with the implementation of the e-FIR system. By enabling people to register complaints from any location, this feature increases process accessibility and lowers obstacles to prompt legal remedies.

Protecting Personal Liberty

To prevent unnecessary arrests, the new laws have done away with provisions that allowed for arrests without substantial reasons. Moreover, bail cannot be denied solely based on extended police custody beyond the initial 15 days, ensuring that personal liberty is preserved.

Jurisdictional Flexibility with Zero FIR

By eliminating jurisdictional restrictions, the Zero FIR provision enables people to register complaints at any police station. The purpose of this modification is to enhance the system’s responsiveness to the requirements of citizens and speed up the legal procedure.

Strong Oversight Mechanisms

To guard against potential police excesses, the new laws mandate strict oversight mechanisms. These include mandatory recording of arrests and evidence collection, ensuring that law enforcement adheres to legal procedures and respects citizens’ rights.

Upholding Fundamental Rights

Revised laws place a strong emphasis on defending fundamental rights, such as right to free speech and peaceful assembly. This approach reinforces the commitment to upholding constitutional principles by addressing concerns about the possibility of arbitrary suppression of dissent.
