Delhi rain: Several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) witnessed incessant rainfall on Wednesday since the wee hours. In several regions of Delhi and its adjoining areas, heavy rainfall caused water logging, triggering traffic snarls. “Major traffic disruption might occur on roads. There might be water accumulation in low-lying areas and on roads,” IMD said.
Yellow alert for Delhi-NCR
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Delhi-NCR, with heavy to very rainfall and heavy thunderstorms predicted for the next 24 hours. “Generally cloudy sky. Moderate rain/thundershowers,” the IMD said while predicting weather in Delhi on Wednesday.
Waterlogging has been reported in Delhi’s Khajuri Khas, Karawal Nagar, IP Extension, Mandoli, Rajgarh Extension, Krishna Nagar and Saboli area. The Safdarjung area recorded 36.5 mm of rain, whereas, Mayur Vihar area witnessed 110.5 mm of rain in three hours.
Areas including Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram are also expected to witness heavy rainfall on Wednesday after heavy showers early in the morning. Floodplains surrounding the Hindon River have been impacted as the river continues to overflow above the danger as a result of incessant rain earlier this week.
Schools closed
All schools up to Class 12 in Noida and Greater Noida will remain closed on Wednesday due to water logging, said the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration.
Other than Delhi, IMD has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for Pune. A red alert has been issued for the city as the met dept advised people to not visit the Ghat areas in Konkan, Pune and Satara. A red alert has also been issued in Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, and Satara for the next 24 hours.
