Delhi experienced its coldest morning this winter, recording a minimum temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius. A dense fog disrupted train operations, while north India continues to grapple with severe cold wave conditions. Red alerts have been issued for Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, with the cold wave expected to persist till January 16.
Cold Wave Continues: Alerts and Forecasts
As a result of the ongoing cold wave, a red alert is in place for Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, extending through Saturday. An orange alert follows for the region on Sunday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts persistent dense fog and cold wave conditions in northwest India for the next 3-4 days.
Widespread Fog Disruptions and Travel Woes
The blanket of dense fog has engulfed most parts of Northern India, causing disruptions in rail and air travel across the entire region. Passengers at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station faced delays due to the cold wave, with visibility in Delhi recorded at a mere 50 meters.
Extended Cold Wave: Impact on Daily Life
Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. Residents are bracing for another day of a partly cloudy sky with dense morning fog, keeping the minimum temperature below 5 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day.
