Senior BJP leaders have reportedly finalized Devendra Fadnavis as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra, according to PTI reports. The official decision will be announced following the BJP legislature party meeting, scheduled for December 2 or 3.
Caretaker CM Eknath Shinde Offers Unconditional Support
Current caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed his “unconditional support” for the decision by the BJP’s top leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda. Addressing speculation, Shinde clarified that his party is aligned with the Mahayuti alliance, which includes the BJP, his faction of the Shiv Sena, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.
Shinde dismissed rumors about his son, Shrikant Shinde, being considered for the deputy CM position or his party seeking the home ministry portfolio, stating that decisions on government formation will be reached through consensus among alliance partners.
Decision on CM Post Expected on December 2
The formal announcement of Maharashtra’s next Chief Minister will likely take place on December 2, bringing clarity to the state’s leadership after prolonged speculation. Devendra Fadnavis, who previously served as CM, is seen as a favored choice within the BJP and its allies.
This decision comes as part of efforts to solidify the NDA coalition’s governance in Maharashtra.
