Devendra Fadnavis to be Sworn in as Maharashtra CM for the 3rd Time, Eknath Shinde Relents

In a significant political development, Devendra Fadnavis is set to take oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday, December 5. The announcement comes after he was unanimously chosen as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) legislature party during a meeting in Mumbai. The swearing-in ceremony, a grand affair, will be held at Mumbai's iconic Azad Maidan in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other dignitaries.

BJP Unites Behind Devendra Fadnavis

The decision to appoint Devendra Fadnavis as Maharashtra CM was solidified during a core committee meeting held before the official legislature party gathering. This meeting, which saw the participation of senior leaders like Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, highlighted the BJP's confidence in Fadnavis's leadership. Both Sitharaman and Rupani also played pivotal roles as central observers for the legislature party meeting, ensuring a smooth decision-making process.

Preparations Underway for Swearing-In Ceremony

As the state gears up for the big day, Azad Maidan in Mumbai is abuzz with preparations for the oath-taking ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance adds to the significance of the event, reflecting the central leadership's support for the new government. The BJP’s allies in the Mahayuti coalition are also expected to be present, showcasing unity among the ruling partners.

BJP and Mahayuti Stake Claim to Form Government

Earlier on Wednesday, the BJP, along with its Mahayuti allies, met Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan to officially stake a claim to form the government. Senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar confirmed that the meeting took place at 3:30 PM, with all partners presenting a united front.

This move follows a decisive mandate that reinstated the BJP's prominence in the state, further consolidating Devendra Fadnavis’s position as the go-to leader for navigating Maharashtra’s complex political landscape.
