Dayanidhi Maran Statement: Dayanidhi Maran, DMK MP, started a rift when he claimed that Hindi speakers visiting Tamil Nadu from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar usually wind up working construction sites or cleaning restrooms and roads. BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla shared a video of the DMK MP’s statement, which went viral. She criticised the leaders of the INDIA bloc from the two states for their silence in the face of the MP’s remarks.
Maran’s Alleged Stereotyping of Hindi and English Speakers
In the video, Maran made a comparison between individuals who studied Hindi and English, claiming that the latter worked in menial jobs while the former ended up in IT companies. BJP MP from Patna, Ravi Shankar Prasad, responded angrily to the DMK MP’s comments about Biharis, saying the DMK leaders ought to quit disparaging Biharis. “People of Bihar are forced to go there because of the condition of the state under Nitish Kumar, who is a member of their INDI alliance,” a BJP legislator stated.
Accuses INDIA Bloc of Inaction Against DMK MP
Shehzad Poonawalla criticised the alliance for its “inaction” against the DMK MP and accused the INDIA bloc of attempting to split the nation’s population along caste, language, and religious lines. “Once again an attempt to play the Divide and Rule card,” Poonawalla wrote on X (formerly Twitter). When taking into account the actions of other leaders, the BJP leader called Dayanidhi Maran’s language “unfortunate” and added that it was not a coincidence.
Shehzad Poonawalla Criticizes UP and Bihar Leaders’ Silence
He criticised the Uttar Pradesh and Bihar leaders of the INDIA bloc for their silence in response to Dayanidhi Maran’s statement. “Will Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu Yadav, Congress, SP Akhilesh Yadav all pretend that this isn’t happening ? When will they take a stand?,” asked Poonawalla. Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that DNV Senthilkumar, another DMK MP, who caused a stir during the Winter Session of Parliament with a comment he made against the heartland states of India, went unpunished.
BJP’s Southern Electoral Challenges Examined
Senthilkumar said as much, arguing that in light of the BJP’s recent victories in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, the party is incapable of winning in South Indian states. Poonawalla also criticised Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the leaders of the Congress, for previous incidents. Rahul Gandhi, the Wayanad Lok Sabha MP, stated at a rally in 2021 that he was accustomed to a “different type of politics” while serving as the representative for Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections that year.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s Defense
Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was defended by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in 2022 after he stated that Punjabis ought to band together and refuse to allow “bhaiye from UP, Bihar, and Delhi” to rule the province. Poonawalla also cited the statements made by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Udhayanidhi Stalin. Udhayanidhi Stalin, a DMK leader and minister for Tamil Nadu, recently caused controversy when he said that Sanatana dharma should be “eradicated” rather than merely opposed, likening it to “dengue” and “malaria”.
Revanth Reddy’s Past Remarks
Furthermore, an old video of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy commenting on his opponent and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s claim that the latter’s “DNA is from Bihar” surfaced after Revanth Reddy took office. Shehzad Poonawalla stated the agenda of the INDIA bloc is to “divide and rule and insult Sanatana Dharma and divide the people of the country” while enumerating the incidents.
