Srinagar Blast: A grenade blast in Srinagar’s bustling Sunday Market, near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), injured at least 12 people on Sunday. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack, emphasizing the need for urgent action to restore public safety.

Omar Abdullah Urges Action After Srinagar Blast

Reacting to the incident, Omar Abdullah expressed deep concern. He described the attack as “deeply disturbing,” adding that recent headlines already highlighted violent encounters across the region. Addressing the public on X, he stated, “Today’s news of a grenade attack on innocent shoppers at the ‘Sunday market’ in Srinagar is deeply disturbing. There can be no justification for targeting innocent civilians.” Abdullah urged security forces to intensify efforts to protect public safety, allowing people to live without fear.

According to local reports, a terrorist hurled a grenade onto a vendor’s cart, injuring nearby shoppers and vendors. Security forces arrived immediately, tending to the injured and searching for the attackers. All 12 injured civilians were quickly transported to nearby hospitals.

Rising Violence Raises Security Concerns in Jammu and Kashmir

The grenade blast followed another incident just a day before, when security forces killed a senior Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander in Srinagar’s Khanyar area. This recent violence has raised fears, with residents and leaders urging stronger safety measures in Jammu and Kashmir.

The explosion highlights the need for increased security, especially in busy areas like the Sunday market, where locals and tourists frequently gather.
