Kerala: Three individuals were killed and many were injured after an unidentified person poured flammable oil on co-passengers and set them afire inside the D-1 class of the Alapuzha-Kannur Express about 9.50 p.m. on Sunday after the train departed Kozhikode railway station (north Kerala), according to police.
Police did not rule out any terror connection
Three bodies were eventually retrieved from the railway lines, including that of an infant, as authorities suspect they may have jumped off of the moving train in fear. Toufiq and Rehana are the names of two of the deceased. The police did not rule out a terror connection after recovering a bag from the rails containing another container of petrol and two mobile phones. According to an eyewitness, a man in leaped out of the train shortly after it stopped on a bridge along the Korapuzha river and fled on a bike that was waiting for him.

Event happened between the railway stations of Elathur and Koyilandi
The authorities obtained the assailant’s visuals from CCTV footage of a nearby residence and assumed the crime was a well-planned attack. According to one of those injured, the mysterious individual took out a bottle containing a combustible liquid and sprayed it on co-passengers, and before they could respond, he lit the fire and escaped. The event happened between the railway stations of Elathur and Koyilandi. The Kozhikode police commissioner is expected to conduct a press conference later in the day. There are also rumours that central intelligence services have inquired into the incident.
