Water level above danger mark in Delhi

The water level of Yamuna continues to rise in Delhi despite slight respite from rains. At 8 am on Wednesday, the water level was recorded at 207.25 meters at the Old Railway Bridge, inching closer to the highest flood level – 207.49 meters. The water level of the river hovered to the highest record and at the Old Railway Bridge rose from 206.76 metres at 8 pm on Tuesday to 207.18 metres on Wednesday at 7 am, according to Central Water Commission (CWC).

“The water level of the Yamuna River is increasing due to rain. All the police stations along the banks of the river have been instructed to increase vigilance in the area. Coordination is also being established with other agencies so that if there is waterlogging, people can be evacuated immediately,” a senior police official was quoted by news agency ANI as saying.

AAP slams LG

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj on Tuesday slammed Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena over his sharp criticism against AAP due to waterlogging, alleging he has “come out today for the purpose of politics.” The AAP leader claimed that the Delhi LG himself got all the drains in Delhi cleaned in the last six months.

“On 8th July, Delhi received 153 mm of rain but LG visited the affected areas on 11th July. Earlier, he took media everywhere in the past six months and claimed that all nalas and Yamuna were cleaned and today he denies all this. He should help the people of Delhi and not play dirty politics,” he was quoted by ANI as saying.
