The Uttar Pradesh government has rejected a request from the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) for 50 percent state funding for extending the metro in the city. The UP government has reasoned that the maximum funding for other metro projects in the state is 27 percent. The proposed extensions are from Noida Sector 62 to Sahibabad and Vaishali to Mohan Nagar.
GDA officials to meet DMRC authorities
GDA officials said that they will soon meet with officials from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to reassess the metro corridor. Brijesh Kumar, secretary, GDA, said, “We will soon hold meetings with DMRC officials to reassess the feasibility of the Sector 62 to Sahibabad Metro extension (Blue Line). Sahibabad already has an RRTS station coming up, and our focus is to integrate the two systems for the benefit of residents. Following the meeting, the DMRC will be requested to prepare a revised project report that incorporates the interchange in Sahibabad.”
RRTS corridor in the works
The GDA plans to build a crucial interchange at Sahibabad by connecting the proposed Metro extension with the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
Spanning 82 lm, RRTS corridor plans to connect Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.
The priority section of RRTS will be Ghaziabad comprising five stations in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad City, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. The project has almost been completed and will be inaugurated in the coming weeks.
