Ghaziabad News: Newly elected Mayor Sunita Dayal took the oath of office in Ghaziabad on Saturday. She is the sixth mayor of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) since its inception in 1995. Sunita Dayal also administered oaths to the newly elected 100 councilors. She also assured people of sustainable development during her tenure, while thanking them for selecting her to power.
Sunita Dayal takes oath as Ghaziabad mayor
New Ghaziabad mayor Sunita Dayal took the oath of secrecy at the Deen Dayal auditorium in Nehru Nagar on Saturday evening. She was administered the oath by Meerut divisional commissioner Selva Kumari J in the presence of Union Minister VK Singh, former mayor Ashu Verma and MLAs Atul Garg, Ajit Pal Tyag and Sunil Sharma. Also present on the occasion was BJP’s in-charge of western UP districts, Satendra Sisodia.
“The oath-taking ceremony was conducted to comply with the deadline of June 23. The new members will now assume their roles, and an additional ten nominated councillors will also be appointed in due course. The new mayor will form an executive committee comprising 12 councillors,” said Nitin Gaur, the municipal commissioner.
Mayor elections in Ghaziabad
The voting process for the nine local bodies, including the corporation, was held on May 11. The results were announced on May 13. Dayal emerged victorious with 350,905 votes (58.12%) out of the total 603,770 votes cast for the mayor’s post, as per the Uttar Pradesh Election Commission. Out of the 100 corporation wards, BJP candidates secured 66 councilor seats.
