Ghaziabad News: On Friday, authorities from the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation announced that the state government has granted approval for the implementation of an Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) in the city. The project is budgeted at around ₹85.75 crore, covering expenses related to data storage, bandwidth connectivity, and GST. They further noted that the project is slated to kick off within the next two months.
ITMS to bring new changes
The ITMS project comprises several systems geared towards enhancing traffic management, encompassing aspects such as traffic control, traffic enforcement, detection of red-light violations, identification of no-helmet riders, and recognition of triple-riding instances.
According to officials, discussions regarding the implementation of ITMS have been in progress for the past two years. In April, the civic agency submitted a proposal to incorporate 41 significant traffic intersections within the city.
Chief Engineer NK Chaudhary said, “The ITMS project has received approval and the green light from the state government. It encompasses 41 locations, and work is scheduled to commence within the next two months, following the completion of tendering and other necessary processes.”
Officials have indicated that the project will be financed through the State Smart City Mission, which grants selected cities, including Ghaziabad, ₹250 crores over a five-year span. In a statement released on Friday, the Uttar Pradesh government stated that the entire project is estimated to be around ₹85.75 crore, with ITMS already operational in 10 cities.
State govt issues statement
In a statement, State govt notified, “With the approval, the Ghaziabad city will be equipped with the ITMS and the works are likely to get completed in next six months. Apart from helping in enforcement against traffic violators, the system will also help nab criminals as the police will be able to detect their faces closely with the help of high-resolution cameras. The cameras will be operated through a command centre.”
The groundwork for the ITMS project has been underway since 2019, when in November of that year, the Ghaziabad Development Authority outlined 18 distinct corridors for the installation of project infrastructure. Nevertheless, the plan was subsequently discarded, and in January 2021, the civic agency was entrusted with the project, utilizing funds allocated under the State Smart City Mission.
