Greater Noida News: A big step has been taken by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) to satisfy the long-standing need for metro connectivity in Noida Extension, popularly referred to as Greater Noida West. A detailed project report (DPR) detailing the network expansion to Noida Extension, including an interchange station linking to the Delhi Metro‘s Blue Line, was authorised by the NMRC board on Monday.
Long-standing Transport Need
For years, the densely populated Noida Extension has struggled with the lack of government-funded public transport. To support bus services and metro train connectivity in the area, locals have organised multiple rallies.
The authorised DPR suggests expanding the 17.43-kilometer Aqua Line route, which has 11 stops, from Noida Sector-51 station to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida. The project is expected to cost Rs. 2991.60 crore, as stated by NMRC Managing Director Lokesh M.
Project’s Significance and Local Struggles
Lokesh underlined the project’s importance, stressing the anticipated connectivity between the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line at Sector-61 station and the current Aqua Line. By offering quicker and more direct connectivity to Delhi and Noida, as well as vice versa, this interchange station is anticipated to help commuters from Noida, Greater Noida West, and Greater Noida.
According to Lokesh, the DPR will now be processed for approval by the governments of Uttar Pradesh and India after receiving the NMRC Board’s approval. An essential connecting point between the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line and the Aqua Line will be the Noida Sector-61 station.
Long-standing Need for Metro Connectivity in Noida Extension
Commuters in these locations will benefit from the proposed corridor’s expected reduction of traffic congestion along Vikas Marg and the Noida-Greater Noida Link Road. Furthermore, the expansion will be smoothly integrated with the DMRC network and the current Aqua Line, improving the region’s overall metro connectivity.
Additional Corridor Expansions
Apart from the Noida Extension project, the NMRC is also exploring expansion proposals on two other corridors: one extends from NMCR’s Depot Station to Bodaki in Greater Noida, while the other connects the Botanical Garden Metro Station to Noida Sector-142. The Uttar Pradesh government has received the DPR for the Botanical Garden-Sector 142 corridor, which is awaiting review before moving forward to the Centre for clearance.
