Cyclone Biparjoy: Before the anticipated landfall of severe cyclone “Biparjoy” near Jakhau port in Kutch region, authorities have already relocated 50,000 people from coastal districts of Gujarat to temporary shelters. The Saurashtra-Kutch region had heavy rainfall and strong winds as the cyclone approached the Gujarat coast on Wednesday, according to the Met department. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone is predicted to make landfall on Thursday evening as a “very severe cyclonic storm” with winds up to 150 kph.
Gujarat Chief Minister Reviews Preparations for Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ at Emergency Operation Centre
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel holds a review meeting at the State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar to discuss preparations for Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’, which is predicted to affect various regions of the nation. Strong gusts and a high tide brought on by Cyclone “Biparjoy” were seen at Mandvi Beach in Gujarat’s Kachchh district. The storm has drifted westward and is not anticipated to make landfall in Dwarka, according to SDM Dwarka Parth Talsania. Additionally, he stated that approximately 4,500 people had been relocated from coastal areas to various shelter homes, and that Dwarka and Okha had each received a deployment of an NDRF force.
Residents Being Relocated to Over 400 Centers in Dwarka District
- After it was deemed unsafe, Relay Tower was demolished. Parshottam Rupala, a Union Minister in Rajakot, Gujarat, claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the preparations made by the relevant officials and ministers and gave them the go-ahead to be on high alert and take all necessary actions.
- According to Parshottam Rupala, more than 400 shelter homes have been located in the Dwarka district, and residents are currently being relocated there.
- An orange alert has been issued for coastal areas by the India Meteorological Department.
- The Shiyalbet people in Jafrabad, Gujarat, received vegetables and milk from the Amreli police as well as other necessities.
- Up to June 15, 95 trains that pass through, originate from, or end in Gujarat’s Biparjoy-affected districts will continue to be cancelled or short-terminated, according to a statement from Western Railway.
- The fact that many people in Gujarat are hesitant to leave their animals and possessions behind is causing problems for the government. On Thursday night, the storm is anticipated to make landfall close to Jakhau port, affecting the districts of Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, and Jamnagar.
- On June 14 and 15, there is likely to be a lot of rain in Gujarat’s Kutch, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi, and Junagadh. There have been five fatalities in Gujarat and Mumbai. These areas are subject to 140 kmph wind gusts.
- Seven Gujarati districts have seen an evacuation of about 20,000 persons.
- Amit Shah, the union home minister, reviewed the nation’s capital’s preparedness for cyclone “Biparjoy” on Tuesday and gave orders to all officers and stakeholders to guarantee “zero casualties” and limit any damage.
- When he took over as chair of the conference on June 12, Shah emphasised the urgency with which the critical directives issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be followed. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been sent in a suitable number by the Centre for relief and rescue operations, the Home Minister added during the meeting.

The wind will be between 50 and 70 kmph. On June 15, that is today and tomorrow, it can reach 85 kmph. The areas of Kutch, Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Morbi may experience the heaviest winds on June 15. The speed is between 125 and 145 km/h.
