Haryana Violence: At a press conference on Wednesday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar addressed the racial tensions that erupted in the state’s Nuh area on Monday. Over the previous two days, crowds have set a number of automobiles and businesses on fire as well as killed six individuals in the violence. He urged citizens to keep the state peaceful and harmonious. Nobody, “not the police or army,” he added, “can guarantee the same, though.” “We can’t protect everyone,” said the chief minister.
Haryana Government to Compensate for Public Property Damage
After a mob attempted to block a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession on Monday, fighting broke out in Haryana’s Nuh district. Clashes broke out between the two groups, and cars were burned and stones were thrown. As word of the unrest in Nuh spread, rioters in the nearby Sohna neighbourhood of Gurugram district set fire to four vehicles and a store. Manohar Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, reported that two police officers were among the six fatalities. He added that 190 persons were held in custody and 116 were arrested in relation to the clashes. The families of the two police officers slain in the violence will receive compensation from the Haryana government in the amount of Rs 57 lakh. Khattar stated that those who had lost property in the rioting on Monday and Tuesday in Nuh and Gurugram, Haryana, will be compensated by the rioters. Khattar clarified that the state government will only pay damages incurred to public property. The state was not obligated to make up for the harm done to private property, nevertheless. “We have passed an Act wherein the government issues compensation for the loss of public property. But as far as private property is concerned, those who caused the loss are liable to compensate for it. So, we will provide for loss of public property and for private property, compensation will be collected from those who are liable for it,” he said. He declared that those responsible for the destruction of private property during the mob violence in Nuh and Gurugram would be identified and held accountable.
Cow Vigilante Allegations and Special Investigation Team Established for Racial Violence in Haryana
In response to a question regarding what precipitated the widespread violence, Khattar stated that investigators were now looking into the event and reviewing call logs and CCTV footage. According to some sources, allegations that Monu Manesar, a cow vigilante, joined the VHP parade on Monday in Nuh were one of the things that set off the violence. The murder of two Muslim males, whose burned remains were discovered in the Bhiwani area in February, was previously charged against cow vigilante Monu Manesar. Khattar said that the Rajasthan Police were handling the case related to Monu Manesar and the riots when he was questioned about them. However, he said that the Nuh area of Haryana faced problems with “cow protection” and urged Muslims to band together to ensure the safety of cows. According to state police commissioner PK Agrawal, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be established to look into incidences of racial violence in Haryana, and Monu Manesar, a member of the Bajrang Dal, is being investigated for his involvement in the disturbances. The DGP stated that the situation in the state was under control and that the curfew had been temporarily removed in Nuh while speaking at a press conference on Wednesday in Gurugram. There are no reports of any violent crimes in Gurugram, making it fully safe. According to him, senior officers have been stationed in Nuh, and the police have been ordered to deal harshly with anyone disobeying administrative directives.
