Gurugram Metro Project Set to Transform City Commute, Check Who Will Benefit

Revolutionising Urban Transit: Gurugram Metro Project's Impact on City Commute

Gurugram News

Gurugram News: With the latest announcements made by Chander Shekhar Khare, the recently appointed Managing Director of Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) and Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC), the ₹5,452 crore Gurugram Metro project is on the fast track to becoming a reality . After visiting the site, Khare verified that the contracts for a general consultant (GC) and a detailed design consultant (DDC) will be completed by the end of June. Soon after, the groundwork is anticipated to start.

Swift Progress on Gurugram Metro

On February 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the project’s foundation stone. With 27 elevated stations spread over 28.5 km, this massive project would extend the metro line from Huda City Centre to Cyber Hub via Old Gurugram. Khare underlined the need for the construction to begin immediately and highlighted how the metro’s design offers an integrated transit option for the whole city.

Enhancing Last Mile Connectivity

GMRL works with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and other local organisations to guarantee smooth last-mile bus and rickshaw connections. According to Khare, the metro stations would be positioned to encourage people to walk to them, therefore minimising the demand for cars.

Organizational and Technical Preparations

In order to move forward with the project, Khare declared that GMRL will have its own organisation and that technical specialists will be hired. By the end of next month, the first 13 km’ worth of geotechnical work should be finished, having already reached 70% of its total length. This development marks an important step towards the project’s implementation, as does the impending hiring of consultants.

Inclusive and Accessible Metro System

Discussions with GMRL Chairman G Thara have underscored the vision of developing an inclusive, accessible, and friendly metro system. The design will cater to the needs of women, children, senior citizens, and the differently-abled, ensuring a transport facility that benefits all residents of Gurugram.

Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Policy

The project will also adopt the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy, promoting residential and commercial development along the metro route. This approach aims to enable people to live and work close to the metro line, enhancing convenience and reducing traffic congestion.

Depot Site Inspections and Future Planning

Khare visited proposed depot locations in Sectors 33 and 102 and will decide following extensive consultation with stakeholders. The main metro corridor, which will link important locations including Subash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector 4/5, Palam Vihar, and Cyber Hub, will run from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City. An extra line will connect Basai Village to the Dwarka Motorway and merge with the Rapid Metro at the stations on Belvedere Towers and Moulsari Avenue.

High-Speed, Efficient Commute

With trains operating at a maximum of 80 km/h and planned for speeds of up to 90 km/h, the Gurugram Metro offers a quick and easy way to travel. In addition to revolutionising urban transportation in Gurugram, the project promotes sustainable urban expansion by allowing larger Floor Area Ratios (FAR) or Floor Space Indexes (FSI) along the transit route to permit strategic real estate development.
