Gurugram News: MCG Imposes Stiff Penalties to Combat Water Wastage Amid Scarcity

Gurugram News: In response to severe water scarcity affecting several residential colonies, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has announced stringent fines to curb water wastage. Starting Thursday, residents found using potable water for washing vehicles or courtyards between 5am and 9am will face a penalty of Rs 5,000. The same fine will apply to those watering their lawns during this time.

For repeat offenders, the MCG will disconnect the water supply and impose an additional fine of Rs 5,000. Restoration of the water connection will require payment of a Rs 5,000 fee plus Rs 1,000 reconnection charges. This decision follows directives from the urban local bodies (ULB) department, aiming to ensure the judicious use of water resources and prevent wastage during peak supply hours.

Areas at the ‘tail-end’ of the water supply network face the greatest scarcity due to low water pressure. Common violations include the installation of motors and pumps directly on supply lines, which reduces water pressure for the entire area. The MCG will confiscate these devices and impose fines on offenders. Unauthorized car washing centers will also be sealed and their water connections severed.

MCG officials emphasized the need for residents to comply with the new regulations to help mitigate the city’s water crisis and ensure equitable distribution of water resources.
