Haryana Assembly Election 2024 — The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Central Election Committee (CEC) convened on Thursday to finalize its candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, scheduled for October 1. The high-profile meeting was attended by key BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President J P Nadda, among other CEC members.
The committee engaged in extensive discussions to finalize the list of probable party nominees for the 90-member Haryana Assembly. The elections are significant as the BJP seeks to secure a strong foothold in the state.
Key Leaders Present
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who is overseeing the BJP’s election efforts in Haryana, along with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, was present at the meeting. Earlier in the day, senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Manohar Lal Khattar, met at Nadda’s residence to deliberate on the names of potential candidates submitted by the state unit.
Haryana BJP Chief Mohan Lal Badoli also participated in the core group meeting at Nadda’s residence, where they reviewed the political landscape and strategized for the upcoming elections.
Party’s Democratic Process
Following the BJP core group meeting, senior leader and former Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij addressed the media, stating that the state team had briefed the central leadership on the current political scenario in Haryana. He emphasized the democratic nature of the party, noting that the final decision on candidates would be made by the Central Election Committee.
Background and Election Context
Haryana’s 90-member Assembly is set for elections on October 1, with the counting of votes scheduled for October 4. In the last Assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party and formed a coalition government with the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). However, the BJP-JJP alliance ended earlier this year ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, where both the BJP and Congress won five seats each out of the 10 in Haryana.
As the BJP gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, the party’s leadership is focused on selecting candidates who can lead them to victory in a politically competitive state.
