Haryana News: Haryana Chief Secretary T. V. S. N. Prasad announced on Thursday that the state has prepared a draft action plan on climate change, which will soon be submitted to the Central government for approval. This initiative is part of Haryana’s broader strategy to address environmental challenges and mitigate climate impacts.
In addition to the climate action plan, the state is also set to implement a work plan for desilting reservoirs, aiming to enhance water storage capacity and management.
Drafts Action Plan on Climate Change and Initiates Heatwave Mitigation Measures
Addressing measures to counter the ongoing heatwave, the Chief Secretary highlighted that the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management has instructed all Deputy Commissioners and Administrative Secretaries to develop and execute effective mitigation strategies. Nodal officers have been designated to oversee these efforts and ensure coordinated action across the state.
These announcements followed the National Crisis Management Committee meeting, chaired by the Union Cabinet Secretary through video conferencing. The meeting reviewed the national preparedness for heatwave conditions, which have been particularly severe in Haryana. Since mid-May, the state has experienced relentless heat, with Sirsa recording a record-breaking 50.3 degrees Celsius on May 28.
“While thunderstorms in the coming days may provide temporary relief, temperatures are expected to rise again shortly,” Prasad noted.
