Weather

Haryana Weather Update: Haryana is enduring a severe heatwave during Naughtapa, with the state experiencing its hottest May in 26 years. In Sirsa, near Hisar, the maximum temperature soared to 48.4 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day, making it the hottest place in India on Monday. The last time Hisar recorded such extreme heat was on May 26, 1998, with a temperature of 48.8 degrees Celsius. Currently, daytime temperatures in the state are up to 5.1 degrees above normal, with a 1.6-degree rise in the last 24 hours.

According to meteorologist Dr. M.L. Khichad, Haryana’s weather is expected to remain dry and hot until May 31. During this period, daytime temperatures are likely to continue rising, with hot westerly winds, or “loo,” blowing across the region. Intermittent light clouds and dust storms are also expected. However, relief may be on the horizon, as a western disturbance could bring cloud cover and light showers to some areas on May 31.

Red Alert Issued for 17 Districts

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for 17 districts and an orange alert for 5 northern districts from May 28 to May 31. Notably, temperatures across all cities in Haryana are hovering above 42 degrees Celsius.

Increase in Hospital Admissions

Following Naughtapa, the intense heat has led to a rise in patients suffering from heat-related illnesses. Hospitals in Charkhi Dadri have seen an increase in cases of diarrhea and heatstroke. The health department has continuously issued guidelines to help people cope with the heatwave. The daily outpatient department (OPD) visits at the local civil hospital and the maternal and child hospital have surpassed 1,000, with about 25% of patients reporting vomiting and diarrhea. Patients like Katar Singh, Suresh Kumar, and Sanjeev have described the heat as record-breaking and have sought medical treatment while advising others to take precautions against the extreme temperatures.
