Brij Bhushan Singh: Just one day after Olympians Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party, former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh denied sexual harassment claims. Faced with widespread criticism, Singh firmly stated, “I am not guilty of disrespecting daughters,” blaming the wrestlers and Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda.
Brij Bhushan Accuses Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia of Cheating
In an interview with ANI, Singh lashed out at Phogat and Punia, questioning their integrity. He criticised the decision to send Bajrang to the Asian Games without trials, and raised doubts about Vinesh’s participation in the trials. “I want to ask Vinesh Phogat, can a player give trials in two weight categories in one day? Can the trials be paused for five hours after the weigh-in? You didn’t win by wrestling, you won by cheating. God has punished you for it,” Singh claimed.
Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia Join Congress Ahead of Haryana Elections
The induction of Phogat and Punia into Congress comes just before the Haryana Assembly elections, where voting for 90 seats is scheduled for October 5. On joining Congress, Vinesh Phogat expressed her gratitude, saying, “When we were being dragged on the road, all parties except BJP stood with us. I feel proud to join a party that supports women and fights from ‘sadak to sansad’.”
Bajrang Punia echoed similar sentiments, saying Congress supported them in their time of need and vowed to dedicate the same effort in politics as he did in wrestling.
Brij Bhushan Questions Congress’ Decision
Singh continued his criticism, not just of the wrestlers but of the Congress party as well. He warned that Congress will eventually regret its decision to induct Phogat and Punia. “One day, Congress will regret this. If the BJP asks me to campaign in Haryana, I will go,” Singh asserted.
