PM was supposed to launch a number of projects in West Bengal, but he had to head to Gandhinagar after learning of his mother’s passing
The PM was supposed to visit West Bengal to introduce a number of initiatives, but after learning about his mother’s passing, he had to head to Gandhinagar. The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted that he would use video conferencing to participate in today’s events in Bengal.
At the Bengal event, BJP supporters shouted “Jai Shri Ram,” prompting Mamata Banerjee to decline taking the stage. She refused to move when Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tried to persuade her to come up on stage.
Ashwini Vaishnaw and Subhash Sarkar, two senior BJP officials and union ministers, were seen attempting to persuade the BJP workers not to yell slogans because it was a government function and not a political one.
From the side of the stage, Mamata Banerjee spoke to the audience. The PM was complimented for joining the programme despite losing his mother, and she expressed her condolences for his loss.
According to a medical bulletin, Heeraben Modi passed away this morning at around 3:30 am at the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad. After her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday.
