Himachal Pradesh News: In anticipation of moderate to heavy rain and the potential for flash floods and landslides, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow advisory for Himachal Pradesh. On Thursday, the state’s regions were hit by persistent rain, which led to landslides and the collapse of multiple buildings. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow signal for the state on Friday, forecasting moderate to heavy rains, with no sign of reprieve in sight.

Long-Duration Rain Predicted

The weather service predicted that the rainy period will extend until August 29. The government have mandated that all Shimla schools be closed on Friday due to the heavy rain alert. According to Principal Secretary (Revenue) Onkar Chand Sharma, up to 729 roads in the state are closed, and 2,897 power transformers have been destroyed, leaving some regions of the state without energy. Landslides shut off the route leading to Mandi, leaving hundreds of passengers trapped. On both sides of the landslide-affected region, a line of cars could be observed.

Temporary Shelter for Stranded Travelers

According to officials, stranded motorists on the Kallu-Mandi highway were relocated to relief centres set up in hotels, rest stops, and private residences at Pandoh, Aut, and Bajaura. Up to 120 people have perished in the state this month due to landslides and other rain-related disasters, with roughly 80 of the fatalities occurring since August 14. Since the start of the monsoon on June 24, there have been a total of 242 fatalities throughout the state. Chief Minister Sukhu asserted on Thursday that the state had already lost 12,000 crore rupees.
