IMD issues red alert for Gujarat, rain showers trigger landslide in Raigad

Incessant rainfall continues to wreak havoc in Gujarat, triggering a flood-like situation. Currently reeling with waterlogging, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall across the state in the next 24 hours. In many districts of South Gujarat and the Saurashtra-Kutch region. 

Warning for fishermen

Fishermen have also been warned to not venture along and off the north Gujarat coast till July 26 amid the ongoing dangerous circumstances that are likely to prevail for the next two Days. 

Severe waterlogging 

Severe waterlogging has also been recorded in many regions of Gujarat, disrupting vehicular movement as water entered the engines of the vehicles.  Navsari and Junagadh have been identified as the most affected districts. 

Red Alert in Gujarat 

A red alert has been issued for Gujarat as the rain situation continues to prevail. The IMD has issued a ‘red alert’ for Valsad, Bhavnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Daman, and Dadra Nagar Haveli, and an ‘orange alert’ for Ahmedabad, Anand, Bharuch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Amreli, Jamnagar, Gir Somnath, and Kutch, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next two days.

Yellow alert for Mumbai

The weather office has issued an ‘orange’ alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts for July 24. A yellow alert has also been issued for heavy rainfall in isolated places of Mumbai on Monday. 

After a devastating landslide occurred at the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Raigad district, traffic movement was disrupted towards the state capital. The landslide that took place on Sunday night around 10:30 pm caused significant disruption and concerns for commuters as rocks and mud obstructed the path.
