An ongoing Income Tax raid at the premises of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu has led to shocking revelations. The search, initiated on December 6 across locations in Lohardaga, Ranchi, and Odisha, has unveiled staggering amounts of cash. On December 7, 30 shelves filled with currency notes were discovered at Sahu’s residence in Odisha, followed by the recovery of 156 bags filled with currency notes on December 8. As of December 9, the count had risen to 176 bags, with the counting process still ongoing. So far, approximately Rs 300 crore has been counted from 40 bags, and the total recovery is expected to surpass Rs 400 crore. The raid has sparked political controversies, with the BJP targeting the Congress and the Hemant government in Jharkhand.
Unprecedented Cash Recoveries and Ongoing Investigation
The Income Tax Department is conducting a detailed investigation into the recovery of significant sums of cash at Dheeraj Sahu’s premises. The recovered amounts are estimated to be in the range of Rs 350 crore, with investigations determining the legal status and ownership of the funds. Additionally, gold, silver, and diamonds valued at Rs 150 crore have been seized from Sahu’s Ranchi and Lohardaga residences. Seven lockers and 10 rooms are yet to be opened, and the overall cash recovery figure may surpass Rs 500 crore. BJP MP Dr Nishikant Dubey has raised questions about the massive cash recovery and emphasized the need for accountability within the Congress party.

In response to the unfolding scandal, Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta has emphasized that Dheeraj Sahu comes from a longstanding business family, and the money could be linked to legitimate business activities. The BJP has intensified its criticism, questioning the silence of the Congress party and demanding accountability from all party leaders involved.
