Manipur News: A drop box was seen outside the home of Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, a minister in the Manipur administration, in a Friday viral post from the state’s violence-plagued Manipur. “Please drop your snatched weapons here,” was written on the drop box. It says “Feel free to do so” on it. Sources told that the minister had positioned a box in the appearance of a closet in front of his residence, which also contained numerous stolen firearms.

The insider also stated that there are many boxes of ammunition, an AK-47 rifle, another rifle, a small pistol, and other items in the drop box right now. He explained the drop box, saying, “The box was placed here late last night to enable the people to submit the looted weapons.” Since the Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s request for the return of weapons being illegally stored in Manipur’s violent areas, at least 789 guns and 10,648 other rounds of ammunition have been found. In light of the sensitive situation in the state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to visit Manipur on Saturday. He is anticipated to meet with Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Additionally, Sarma will meet with 10 Naga MLAs in Manipur who were already scheduled to meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity Opposes Weapon Surrender
Another development in the state occurred on Thursday when the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (CCOMI), a civil society group based in Imphal, rejected Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s call for the surrender of weapons stolen from the security forces and vowed to oppose any combing operations carried out by the latter. A “Manipuri National War” was also proclaimed against “Chin Kuki narco-terrorists” After the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) organised a Tribal Solidarity March to protest against the Meiteis’ demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status on May 3, ethnic violence erupted in the northeastern state of Manipur, killing at least 98 people and injuring more than 310 others. Numerous people are now homeless as a result of the violence that has lasted for almost a month. Sources claim that there are already 272 relief camps housing close to 37,450 individuals throughout the state.
