Nuh: In response to the defiance of right-wing organizations in conducting the planned Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra on August 28, local authorities on Friday took the decision to suspend internet and bulk SMS services in Haryana‘s Nuh. It’s notable that the police have already denied permission for the yatra scheduled by Hindu right-wing groups on August 28.
Internet & SMS services shut in Nuh
According to officials, the ban was initiated on Friday evening and will remain in effect until August 29. These services had been restricted following clashes on July 31 and had been reinstated on August 11.
During a panchayat in Palwal on August 6th, a resolution was reached to arrange another yatra. Speakers emphasized during the meeting that this event would signify the procession’s third year and would adhere to its customary path. The yatra is planned to initiate from Gurgaon, pause at the Nalhar temple for a water offering, and culminate at the Radha Krishna Mandir in Firozpur-Jhirka. This route will encompass a distance spanning around 22-25 kilometers.
Although the district administration did not give the permission for the yatra, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the primary organizers, remain determined to proceed with the procession during the month of Shravan. Within the group, there are deliberations about including several modifications to ensure a more subdued event. One of these changes involves a proposal to decrease the number of people. Law enforcement authorities also indicated that the internet shutdown was prompted by a panchayat (local council meeting) in the neighboring Alwar district of Rajasthan on Saturday.
Three policemen injured during questioning
A group of 30-40 individuals pelted stones at law enforcement officials, injuring three police personnel, including a sub-inspector. The incident occurred on Friday in Singaar village when the police were questioning a suspect for questioning related to a violent incident. The stone pelting commenced as the officers were attempting to place the suspect inside their vehicle.
The injured policemen were swiftly transported to the Punhana Community Health Centre. Subsequently, additional personnel were summoned, resulting in the arrest of nine people linked to the episode. A case has been registered at the Bichhor police station concerning this incident.
Nuh witnessed intense violence on July 31. Tragically, this turmoil claimed the lives of six people, which included two home guard personnel and a religious leader. To curb the escalation of violence, the authorities took the step of prohibiting mobile internet, SMS, and broadband services. As a consequence of the unrest, educational institutions were shut down, and a curfew was imposed in the area.
