Jaipur News: Following the suspected murder of a 20-year-old Muslim man on Friday night in Jaipur‘s Gangapol neighbourhood, a sizable mob from the two groups gathered on the Ramganj-Badi Chaupar route, igniting animosity between the two populations, according to police.
15 Detained in Connection with Man’s Murder
Confirming the incident, Jaipur police commissioner Biju George Joseph said, “15 people were detained for their alleged involvement in the murder of the man. Further investigation is underway.” Iqbal Maziz of Ramganj has been identified by the police as the deceased man. According to the police, Maziz was riding a two-wheeler back from Jaisinghpura Khor when it crashed with another vehicle nearby the Gangapol area, causing a fight. “Meanwhile, a man identified as Mohan Lal along with the other locals present intervened to pacify them. But Iqbal allegedly got into a brawl with Mohan Lal,” said Manak Chowk Circle Officer Hemant Jakhar while speaking to the newspersons.
How a Fight Escalated to Tragedy in Jaipur
According to Jakhar, the people then called nearby neighbours and they all attacked Maziz with sticks and rods. When the local police from Subhash Chowk police station arrived on the scene after receiving the information, they found Maziz unconscious and laying on the road. They then transported him to Sawai Man Singh Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Circle Officer. Mob Gathers at Hospital, Protests Erupt in Jaipur
After the Muslim man passed away, a sizable mob arrived at the hospital and began a dharna calling for the accused to be taken into custody right away. The market and the nearby schools were immediately shuttered when a big mob assembled again on Saturday morning in a popular market area adjacent to the Ramganj-Manak Chowk junction and vandalised many local businesses. The Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC), an emergency response team (ERT), and a special task force (SRT) make up a large police force.
Jaipur Authorities Respond to Growing Tension

In the meantime, chief minister Ashok Gehlot met with Ameen Kagzi and Rafeek Khan, two local MLAs from the Kishanpole and Adarsh Nagar constituencies, on Saturday morning to discuss the delicate situation in the capital city. Khan reported that CM Gehlot had announced a compensation of Rs. 50 lakh to the victim’s family as well as a job for one of the family members in a dairy booth. “CM also appealed to the public to maintain peace in the area. Police are putting their best effort to avert any unwanted situation. Necessary action will also be taken against the accused to ensure justice for the victim,” Khan told reporters.
