Jalandhar Bypoll Result: The counting of votes for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat began on Saturday morning. Aam Aadmi Party’s Sushil Kumar Rinku was leading SAD candidate by 720 votes.
All four parties AAP, BJP, Congress and SAD were in the fray. Congress will look to continue its winning streak whereas AAP would like to gain further ground in the state.
Litmus test for Punjab CM
The bypoll is a litmus test for Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann as a lot is expected from AAP after they managed to form the government in the state for the first time.
The bypoll for this Lok Sabha constituency was necessitated after the death of MP Santokh Chaudhary who passed away in January due to a heart attack during the Punjab leg of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. Jalandhar has been a Congress stronghold since 1999 but AAP has emerged as a key political party in the region in recent times.
Key candidates are:
AAP: Sushil Rinku
BJP: Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal
Congress: Karamjit Kaur
SAD: Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi
