Haryana News: Former BJP ally Dushyant Chautala, the leader of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), wrote to Governor Bandaru Dattatreya requesting a floor test for the current Haryana government to demonstrate its majority in the state assembly. This occurs barely two days after three Independent MLAs pledged their allegiance to the Congress party and withdrew their support from the BJP government.
Call for Immediate Floor Test
In his letter, he impels the Governor to convene a Floor Test right away in order to force the Government to demonstrate its majority and, in the event that it does not, to impose President’s Rule.
“Given the developments and the clear stance of the party, i.e., JJP, which does not extend its support to the present government and is open to backing any other political party for government formation, it is evident that the incumbent government no longer commands a majority in the legislative assembly,” the letter reads.
Assessment of Political Situation
Dushyant Chautala said, “Considering the current political situation in the state, it is clear that the present state government is in a minority. In view of this, I have written a letter to the Governor of Haryana, requesting him to convene a floor test in the Legislative Assembly. We do not support the current government, and our doors are open to support any other political party in forming the government in Haryana.”
He went on to say that Congress must now take the initiative and request a floor test, and the Governor may issue an order for one in order to ascertain whether the government possesses the requisite strength. In the event that it does not show a majority of support, the Governor may then declare the state to be under President’s Rule immediately.
Defection of Independent MLAs
The recent defection of three Independent MLAs from the BJP faction to the Congress faction has led to calls for a floor test. Three independent candidates who had previously backed the BJP have now switched their allegiance to the Congress.
The Congress has received support from MLAs Sombir Sangwan from Dadri, Dharampal Gondar from Nilokheri, and Randhir Golan from Pundri, according to reports from former chief minister Hooda and Congress state chief Uday Bhan.
Additionally, Chautala declared that should the Leader of the Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, move a motion of no-confidence, his party would vote against the government of Nayab Singh Saini. Chautala made it clear that as long as their whip is in charge, they will support from the outside and their MLAs will cast votes in accordance with his or her directives. He went on to say that JJP MLAs would vote to topple the government if a floor test were held today.
