Policeman Injured in Latest Encounter
The latest incident adds to a string of terror attacks that have recently rattled Jammu and Kashmir. According to a statement by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, terrorists fired at a search party in the Kota Top area, leading to a gunbattle with security forces. Constable Fareed Ahmed sustained injuries during the encounter and is currently hospitalized and undergoing treatment.
In response to the escalating violence, the Jammu and Kashmir Police released sketches of four terrorists involved in two attacks in the Doda district and announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for information leading to their arrest. Additionally, a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh has been offered for information about each individual terrorist.
On Tuesday evening, five troopers of Rashtriya Rifles and a special police officer (SPO) were injured when terrorists attacked a joint checkpost in the upper reaches of Chattergalla in Doda. The Kashmir Tigers, a terror outfit linked to the proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammed, claimed responsibility for the attack.
These recent attacks indicate a renewed surge in terror activity in the Jammu region. Just two days before the Doda encounter, security forces killed a suspected Pakistani terrorist in an overnight gunfight in Kathua district. Another terrorist involved in the same incident was gunned down on Wednesday morning, although a paramilitary soldier was also killed during the operation.
The most devastating attack in this recent wave of violence occurred on June 9, when terrorists opened fire on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district, causing the bus to plunge into a gorge. Ten passengers were killed, and 41 others were injured. A sketch of a terrorist involved in the attack was released on Tuesday, with a Rs 20 lakh reward announced for information about him.
The series of attacks highlights the ongoing threat of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and the critical need for continued vigilance and coordinated security efforts in the region.
