Karnataka Election 2023: In the 224-member Karnataka Assembly, the Congress was just shy of the halfway point after nearly three hours of counting votes. Congress supporters celebrate as party takes lead in Karnataka elections

Congress workers couldn’t contain their happiness as Election Commission statistics showed the party in the lead and edging closer to the majority-mark in Karnataka after poor showings in back-to-back elections. As they celebrated the party’s successful performance, Congress officials lit fireworks, waved party flags, and posed with portraits of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other prominent figures. At the halfway point, trends suggested that the Congress, which is trying to unseat the BJP, was ahead in 114 seats. The saffron party was in the lead in 77 seats as it attempted to end the 34-year anti-incumbency curse in the state.
