Anti-Conversion Law: The controversial anti-conversion law established by the previous BJP administration in Karnataka will be repealed, according to the Siddaramaiah-led state government on Thursday. Following today’s cabinet meeting, the state administration made its choice.
Congress Government in Karnataka Vows to Revisit Controversial BJP Policies and Decisions
This follows signals from the Congress government that it would reconsider any choices made by the previous BJP administration, including the revision of textbooks and the ban on the hijab as well as any property allotments made to right-wing organisations. The Karnataka Legislative Council enacted the Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021, also known as the anti-conversion bill, in September of last year after the then-opposition Congress staged a walkout.

Detentions and Legal Complaints Under Karnataka’s Anti-Conversion Law
A 24-year-old Muslim male was detained and remanded to judicial detention in October after being charged with violating the anti-conversion law in the southern state by allegedly converting a woman under the guise of getting married to her. Later on in November, the Karnataka Police filed a legal complaint against another man for allegedly luring and harassing a female of a different religion in the Mandya district’s Nagamangala town. Many of the legislation and decrees enacted by the previous BJP administration, according to RDPR and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge, were “against state interest” and would be changed or repealed by the new Congress administration.
