Karnataka: Zameer Ahmed Khan, the minister for Karnataka, caused a commotion when he asserted that the Congress government is to blame for the BJP leaders’ apparent obligation to meet the state assembly’s Muslim speaker, UT Khader, with respect.
Attributing to Congress Legacy
“The BJP ought to take a position today and address our UT Khader with a “Namaskaar, sir.” At a Telangana public meeting, Zameer Khan declared, “Congress has made this happen.” Khan listed a number of individuals and their positions in the Congress to highlight the important roles that Muslim leaders have taken on. He said that nine of the seventeen Muslim candidates the party supported were elected as MLAs, five of whom had significant positions.
Zameer Khan’s Ministry Positions
He specifically noted his promotion to three ministry positions: chief whip Saleem Ahmed Khan, political secretary Naseer Ahmed, and minister Rahim Khan. He made the point that there had never been a Muslim Speaker prior to the Congress government’s tenure and that the BJP now needed to show respect for Speaker UT Khader. Zameer Khan’s divisive comments are being made as the government gets ready for the Karnataka Assembly’s winter session, which will take place in the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi from December 4 to December 15.
Call for Chief Minister’s Action
Leader of the JD(S), HD Kumaraswamy, responded to the statement by saying, “We did not expect such a low level reaction by Minister Zameer Ahmed.” What will happen to the assembly if the BJP decides not to speak during the winter session due to this statement? The Chief Minister ought to take action against Zameer if he is sane. This incident occurred months after Speaker UT Khader suspended ten BJP MLAs in July. After the MLAs were observed hurling torn bills at Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani, Khader reprimanded them for their allegedly “unruly” actions and disrespect for the chair.
